You would like to read up on the technique of plastic surgery fasciectomy.
This information should provide you with a good overview and assist you in your decision.
It does not replace a comprehensive personal consultation with doctor siegl, who would be pleased to discuss any specific problems with you at any time.
This operation aims at removing diseased connective tissue whereby Dupuytren’s tissue spreads both superficially through the skin and deeper through to the muscles and between the nerve
vessel bundles. It is therefore not usually possible to radically remove Dupuytren’s tissue, because important structures of the hand, like the nerve vessel bundles, muscles and skin have to be conserved.
Residual parts of Dupuytren’s tissue can therefore remain after every operation. The incision is made along the natural skin folds in the hand or via the joints in a zigzag shape.
The operation is carried out under regional or general anaesthesia.
As with all operations complications can not be completely ruled out; in the individual case they are not always predictable. The possible complications will be discussed in a personal conversation.
By removing the thickened connective tissue the flexibility and function of the hand is improved and usually completely reinstated in the palm.
If the course of the disease has been longer and there is a clear restriction in the flexibility of the fingers
then the operation can at least attain an improvement in the function of the hand.
